2003 | 32cm x 75cm | Woven Tapestry. Black belting yarn for warp, fishing line, gold thread, wool and rayon weft.
I wove this to remember my dad, George Harold Ashley who died at 4:30 am on the 14th June 2001. As he slipped away, the birds started singing their dawn chorus. He loved the birds in the garden. It was a fitting departure. I wanted to capture the beauty and mystery of that moment and pay tribute to a lovely hard working man. Exhibited in 2003 at the Textile House, Pentonville Trail as part of the Brighton Festival.
