2001 | 33cm x 50cm | Woven Tapestry. Cotton warp. Cotton and linen weft.

From a photograph of shadows on the beach. My weavings are about capturing and recording transient moments, shadows, a touch, a mark - left or made in the landscape. I escape from the surrounding hi-tech man-made environment to use the natural landscape and shoreline as my inspiration. I use my photographs or make marks as a starting point for developing my weavings. My interest lies in the tide lines: the boundaries between land and sea and by shadow and light. Looking at our direct connections to the land, I use human images fused with the surface of the land to reach back and consider how much the land has been changed by our presence and to search for a long lost past. The weaving process gives me time to reflect on, interpret and recreate the transient images that I have recorded.
