2015 | 29cm x 15cm | Woven Tapestry. Cotton warp, linen and linen/rayon weft.
Gaia (GAEA) is the Greek goddess personifying the earth. Gaia is a hypothesis of a self regulating planet. This weaving is a reminder that we should not lose our connection to the natural world. My imagery is based on prehistoric statues. They dance as shadows on shifting sand, integrated into, and yet separate from, the background. They dance the continual dance of life paying respect to the earth. The earth is a precious resource which they celebrate with strength and resilience through time. My weaving is spare and graphic. Elements are simplified and my yarns create a supporting background of colour and light.
