2024 | 100cm x 45cm | Cotton warp. Mercerised cotton, linen, silk, and wool weft.

Gaia Song – Summer Dream represents the song of the earth reminding us of its beauty, fragility, and abundance. We must listen. It is a summer mirage, the feel of the sun, swirling pollen, dancing butterflies and distant hum of bees. It is an etherial landscape where water and sunlight suggest hidden depths and fleeting memories, bluring the boundaries between reality and mirage. Gaia Song - Summer Dream is a commission inspired by the Cuckmere Valley in the South Downs in Sussex. It represents the feeling of summer walks on the chalk hills surrounding the meandering Cuckmere valley. A sensory experience of a warm summer breeze, glimpses of the blues and oranges of butterflies, the smell of wild flowers and the sound of bird song. I enjoy the processes of planning and weaving a tapestry. I mostly use mercerised cotton, silk, and linen threads blended with wool and other materials. I like the sheen of the mercerised cottons and the silk which catch the light and animate my weavings. I mix wool and linen threads together to give a lively surface.
